The Fog

(Music: Hiroaki Kato / Words: Mutsumi Tanamura)

Is what awaits me hope, or just despair?
Deluded so many a time, will I ever learn?
Is what I hear your call, or just a prayer?
Now it sounds so clear and firm
Yet the fog arising blinds my sight again

I hear the soldiers march, sad is the youth
Their blood shall be cold to perform someone’s vain ideal
Commands behind the wall against the truth
How they echo so unreal
Griefs and moans are sealed by hailers’ cheers again
Now —

Yes, so fine, so fair, repeats the story
Of fight — we fear it’s never ending
Of hope — we hate there always will be an end
The fog — it’s you and me

Still, so sweet, repeats the story
Till blood and tears just flow a river
Till history finds us new ways to live
The fog — it’s all we see

Well, love is like a dream within a dream
There’s nothing sure, none to know
Yes, life is like a boat against the stream
No, it’s not how fast you go
And you cannot stop the rowing till the end

Poetry Reading:
Young I departed home so filled with hopes and dreams
My steps are now far heavier than they did seem
Have I taken a wrong road? Or been wholly lost?
Is this all pre-determined? Will our paths be crossed?
And then I met a girl so innocently smiling
“I’ve been long waiting,” said she with her voice beguiling
“For whom?” asked I just out of curiosity
My name and nothing else, in answer uttered she

Yes, love is like a dream within a dream
Awake or asleep, you’re the one I am dying for
As day turns to night once again, I’m just dying more —
O fog, hold me —

Still, so sweet, repeats the story
Till blood and tears just form a river
Till history finds us new ways to live
The fog — it’s you and me
